  6. 1  Introduction
  7.  
  8. Tired of having two or three or even four icons at the bottom of 
  9. your screen monitoring different aspects of your computer?  If
  10. so, then SysUse is for you.  SysUse is a single performance monitor 
  11. program that displays the current utilization levels of all four 
  12. of your computer's main resources: CPU, memory, system (Windows) 
  13. resources, and disk space.  The levels are displayed textually 
  14. when the SysUse window is open, and as gauges (in the above order) 
  15. when the window is minimized.  SysUse is very efficient (especially 
  16. when minimized) and takes very little time away from your other 
  17. applications.

  19. SysUse is a shareware program so you are welcome to try it out 
  20. free of charge.  However, if you like it and decide to keep it on 
  21. your system, you are obligated to register your copy by paying 
  22. $5.95 U.S. to the author at the address given below.  Registration 
  23. entitles you to legally use this and all future releases of SysUse, 
  24. notification of future releases, and technical support.

  26. 2  Usage
  27.  
  28. SysUse was intended to be launched from your win.ini file or 
  29. Windows 3.1 StartUp group.  Load it first (i.e. before other 
  30. applications) to get the most accurate readings for CPU and 
  31. memory utilization.  This is because CPU speed and total available 
  32. memory are initialized when SysUse first comes up.  Also, give 
  33. SysUse a minute or so to adjust to your CPU's speed.

  35. Two commands are available from SysUse's system menu: About SysUse, 
  36. and Options.  About SysUse displays the usual program and author 
  37. info.  Options displays a dialog box from which the following program 
  38. options may be set:
  39.  
  40.      1.  Recalibrate CPU - Causes the CPU speed to be 
  41.      reinitialized.  Select this if your CPU level appears
  42.      to be incorrect (e.g. is greater than 0 even though
  43.      nothing else is running.)
  44.  
  45.      2.  Compact Memory - Calls the GlobalCompact Windows
  46.      function to compact global memory.  Select this if
  47.      Windows reports there is insufficient memory to run 
  48.      an application even though there appears to be a lot.
  49.      It may be that the free memory is just not contiguous.

  51.      3.  Drives - Selects one or more disk drives to be 
  52.      monitored.  Be careful when selecting floppy drives.  
  53.      They're pretty slow!

  55.      4.  Update - Selects the update period for the SysUse
  56.      window and icon.  Usage levels may be recalculated 
  57.      and displayed every 1, 2, or 3 seconds.  1 second is
  58.      the default.

  60.      5.  OK - Exits the Options dialog box.

  62. Upon closing SysUse or exiting Windows, the above options and
  63. the position of the SysUse window are saved to your win.ini file.
  64. These settings are automatically used the next time SysUse is 
  65. launched.

  67. 3  Legal Rights
  68.  
  69. SysUse is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, 
  70. either express or implied.  No liability is assumed from any 
  71. damage or loss resulting from the use of this program.  You are 
  72. free to copy and share SysUse with others, as long as the two 
  73. files SYSUSE12.EXE and SYSUSE12.TXT are distributed together 
  74. and not modified in any way.

  76. Shareware distributors ARE permitted to include SysUse with 
  77. their distributions, but any fee charged by the distributor DOES 
  78. NOT cover the $5.95 registration fee that you the user owe to 
  79. author if you decide to keep and use SysUse.  Businesses, 
  80. Government agencies, and other organizations may purchase a 
  81. site license by contacting the author for additional information.

  94. computer on which you are running SysUse.  In return you will
  95. receive a registration card and notification when new releases of
  96. SysUse are made available.  The notification will include BBS
  97. phone numbers and Internet addresses from which the new release 
  98. may be obtained.  You may also contact the author electronically 
  99. for technical support, which may consist of technical questions, 
  100. comments, and requests for improvements.  Of course, every effort
